Bottle choice for essential oils comes down to three variables: how much light the formula can tolerate, how the oil will be dispensed, and what the pack needs to say on a shelf.
Light protection first
Citrus and resinous oils oxidise quickly under UV. Amber and cobalt blue glass both cut transmission below 450nm to under 10%, which is the threshold most aromatherapy brands work to. Clear glass is only appropriate for oils sold in an outer carton that stays closed in storage.
Then the dispenser
Glass pipette droppers give the most controlled delivery at roughly 0.7ml per drop, and they read as clinical and precise. Orifice reducers suit viscous oils where a dropper would clog. Roller balls are for blends applied to skin rather than diluted in a diffuser.
Finally, size logic
A 10ml bottle is the retail standard for single-note oils; 30ml and 50ml are for blends and massage oils; 5ml is for samples and subscription boxes. Most brands launch on 10ml and 30ml and add 50ml once repeat purchase data exists.
